An East Village NYC Guide You Actually Want: Where to Eat, Shop + Wander
The East Village has a special place in our hearts. Each street is walkable and alive. A neighborhood of small character filled spots with it’s counterculture roots still setting the vibe in the air. This isn’t a neighborhood for a checklist of “top 10 things to do.” It’s about wandering around, eating something good, and popping into the little places that make you stop and smile. This is our East Village NYC Guide to exactly that.
Walking Around the East Village NYC

Walking around East Village is the best way to figure out where YOU want to eat, shop, and wander. Here is a breakdown of how to walk the East Village.
9th–11th Streets Loop
The best way to walk around East Village: Start on St. Marks and 2nd, head down Avenue A, then weave through 9th, 10th, and 11th. Stop anywhere that catches your eye.
Best Parks in the East Village NYC
Having parks to stop and relax at are essential when wandering a neighborhood in New York. We have the best parks in East Village to chill at.
Tompkins Square Park
Alphabet Garden 6BC
Sitting in Garden 6BC
Tompkins Square Park *M+O Top Pick*
The neighborhood’s living room. Sit with a coffee, snack on a bagel, people-watch for hours. Always buzzing, always good.
Alphabet Gardens
Tiny green spaces tucked between buildings. Perfect if you just want to pause for a second.
6BC Botanical Garden (The best of the Alphabet Gardens)
Alphabet City, but still East Village. A little hidden garden with benches and even a treehouse for reading. Feels like magic in the middle of the city.
Where to Eat in the East Village
With so many options on where to eat in the East Village, we have broken it down for you with quick bites, cheap eats, sweet treats, afternoon tea, and dinner in the East Village.
Quick Bites + Cheap Eats
Ray’s Bagels
Best bagels. Get the everything. It’s the best everything. Grab a pickle on the side (non-negotiable). If you’re really going for it, pair it with a Pepsi. We sat outside there too. Wanted another immediately.
7th Street Burger
When a smash burger craving hits (as it tends to do), this is where you go. Greasy, messy, and exactly what you want it to be. Stopped here one random day strolling because it was calling us. Quick easy in and out and you can sit on the tables outside.
Maiden Lane *M+O Top Pick*
Our go-to after hanging in Tompkins Square Park. Also we wanted a Happy Hour and this was exactly what hit the spot. Their specialty is tinned fish, and they make it feel fancy: bread, butter, lemon parsley, and gorgeous salt. Add an ice-cold beer and sit outside.
Sweet Treats + Afternoon Tea
From Lucie
French-inspired cakes and tea, served at the tiniest outdoor tables. Feels like Paris in the middle of the East Village. The iced tea that day was spectacular. Try whatever is available.
Duo Cafe *M+O Top Pick*
A Chinese teahouse and one of the most unique experiences in the neighborhood. Sniff your tea leaves before choosing, then sit down to their Sweet + Tea Set: a pot of your tea, caramelized baked sweet potato, cookies, dried fruit, and seasonal fruit like clementine or persimmon. It’s a whole vibe — worth it for the ritual alone.
Dinner Spots
Mokyo
Playful small plates with big flavor. Korean-inspired, creative cocktails, and the kind of dinner spot that feels special without doing too much.
El Camino *M+O Top Pick*
The atmosphere is to die for. This is where you go to grab a cocktail or a wine. Their small bite appetizers, perfect. Some places just get it and they definitely do!
Shopping in the East Village
Small character filled shops are abundant in the East Village. By taking our walking path advice you will surely find your own special stores but here are some of the shops in East Village that stood out to us.
Vintage + Thrift Stores
3rd and Bazaar
Quick, curated racks that don’t feel overwhelming. Definitely a step above “lost in clutter.”
Fabulous Fanny’s
Must stop. Expect an insane selection of frames and maybe even a new favorite pair ($$$).
Nomad Vintage
Tucked-away boutique vibes. Small but perfectly formed, and surprisingly easy to navigate.
Unique Shops + Gifts
East Village Semi-Precious Stones *M+O Top Pick*
Purple storefront on a corner, incense spilling out onto the street, sidewalk lined with plants. Inside? Crystals, stones, and palo santo (we bought some here).
Babs Home + Pantry
One of those gift shops where you want to buy something for everyone you know. Perfumes, home goods, and things you didn’t know you needed.
Flower Power Herbs + Roots
Witchy, tiny, and packed with herbs and roots you won’t see anywhere else.
Niconeco Zakkaya
Japanese stationery heaven. Journals, planners, washi tape. Inspires a full desk reset.
East Village Books
Chaotic, cozy, and full of surprises. The kind of bookstore you wander into and stumble on something random that feels meant for you.
Everyday Stops
East Village Wines
Endless shelves. Ask for a rec, or just grab a bottle that looks good.
East Village Organic
The dream for grocery-store wanderers. Everything is organic. Perfectly organized and charming.
