Where to Stay in Asheville NC: Choosing Your Base

Before the specific hotel picks, it’s worth explaining the different areas.

We chose to stay in West Asheville, and it was the right call for us.
Downtown Asheville is polished and a little more upscale, full of galleries, higher-end restaurants, and big-name hotels.
West Asheville, on the other hand, is slower and artsier: breweries, small independent restaurants, a real live music scene, thrifting, and little shops that feel more local.

We loved being able to walk all over West Asheville and the River Arts District on foot, then drive into Downtown when we wanted a change of pace or a fancier night out.
It gave us the best of both without ever feeling like we were missing out on either.
